Things that Last

Here's a quick thought to make a quick post...since it's been forever. Brace yourself....

I've been doing a lot of cleaning and going through old notebooks from college, trying to lessen my stuff cause i'm tired of it. In the midst of my cleaning, i've thrown away (recycled, mind you) a lot of research papers and various essays that i spent a lot of time perfecting. As a former English major, all most my essays had to be perfect.... At the time, those papers were my life. Making a good grade was important to me at times, so important that I probably sacrificed hanging out with my friends or whatever it was that I did in college. And now all those papers are being recycled, obviously of no importance to me now.

As a child, I remember my grandmother telling me something about how we'll do a lot in life, but "only what's done for Christ will last." That quote has stuck with me through all these years and only recently have i truly got it! We can spend all our time perfecting some silly little term paper or studying for tests, or whatever it is that occupies our time, but in the end, that stuff ends up in the recycle bin (i pray that you recycle!!).

Somewhere in the Bible (i'm horrible at memorizing scripture locations), it says to seek first the kingdom of God. Seek it first!! I'll be the first to admit that I don't always do that. I stink at it on most days, but that's what I want to do. Quit looking out for myself so much and be available to God and others who might need me.
