We Were Soldiers

I watched this movie again today and was bought to tears numerous times. I am from a long line of soldiers dating back to my father, grandfathers, great grandfathers, uncles, cousins.... This movie especially made me think of what the wives and the children, the moms and the dads, the brothers and the sisters all felt when they received a telegram beginning with those words "We regret..." Now that I know the story of my own family and the day they receieved one of those telegrams, it was definitely a little more heart wrenching....

Lt. Colonel Hal Moore: I can't promise you that I will bring you all home alive. But this I swear, before you and before Almighty God, that when we go into battle, I will be the first to set foot on the field, and I will be the last to step off, and I will leave no one behind. Dead or alive, we will all come home together. So help me, God.

Joe Galloway: [Narrating] We who have seen war, will never stop seeing it. In the silence of the night, we will always hear the screams. So this is our story, for we were soldiers once, and young.

This is my Grandpa McJunkin. I never met him, but one day I will. He and my grandmother had 8 boys - every single one of them served thier country.

These are 3 of my uncles. My Uncle Claude (I'm named after him)
is on the left. This was his last time home with the family. All three of these men
were serving overseas during the Korean War (my Uncle Edwin in the middle was in Germany)
and the two standing beside him
would be the ones to escort his body back to South Carolina.

This is my favorite picture of my Uncle Claude in Korea.

Remember our troops and their families, our leaders, and our world in your prayers....
