To Fear or Not to Fear?

Friday as I was getting ready to head to Charleston for the weekend, I got caught up in the Michael Moore documentary "Bowling for Columbine". In this documentary, he interviewed Marilyn Manson becaue Manson was blamed for the Columbine shooting. Believe it or not, Manson made a thoughtful statement of how society has taught us to fear 'stuff'. This stuff can be anything. Moore used examples such as the killer bees that were migrating to America.

I have also been watching LOST. (I'm a little behind so don't say anything that is going to ruin anything for me). In Season 2, the survivors find a hatch and in the hatch they are given the instructions that they must punch in a certain series of numbers on a special computer every 108 minutes. The question is eventually bought to mind of "What if..." What if they just didn't punch in the numbers? Do the numbers really need to be typed in every 108 minutes or something bad will happen or is this just a way for whoever to control and play mind games with them. anyone see where I'm going with this.....

My friends jokingly make fun of me because I am always asking the question WHY??!! I have been accused of being stubborn and set in my ways because I tend not to take things at face value. But when you really take a look at the whole picture, I think it pays for the individual to find out why we are doing the things we are told -- if in fact we do.... I realize that asking the questions requires more thought processes in some cases, but I guess that's just the commitment I am willing to make! I do not want to live my life in fear of anything just because someone has said to beware or the bees or push the button or else. I want to know the what else! It's not being unsubmissive or being a rebel, it's living life for all it's worth.......
